Working together for climate-neutral steel production: TSR Group to provide voestalpine with recycled raw materials until 2034
The TSR Group and voestalpine have concluded a long-term supply agreement. The TSR Group’s signatories to the agreement are its subsidiaries Johann Neumüller GmbH, based in Linz, and ALFA Rohstoffhandel München GmbH. They will now both be providing voestalpine’s Linz and Donawitz sites with a continuous supply of various grades of recycled steel.
The goal is to ensure that the voestalpine Group has a reliable, long-term supply of recycled raw materials so that it has the foundations needed for its green transition strategy. Initial plans are to supply these materials until 2034, with the volumes of materials increasing from 2027 onwards to help cover the growing demand that will result from the technological changes that the company is making to its steel production operations. The proximity of these two TSR Group subsidiaries to voestalpine’s Linz and Donawitz sites will keep transport mileage down and ensure the logistics in place are both reliable and efficient.
Supply security as a strategic decision
“Having a secure supply of materials is no longer a question of technology but a core strategic issue for industrial companies,” commented Denis Reuter, Chief Operating Officer of the TSR Group. “Making the conscious decision to go for local – and therefore reliable – supplies of recycled raw materials is a clear step towards making businesses more resilient – especially in view of the current geopolitical tensions and volatile global markets. Thanks to this agreement, we are helping to not only make the industry more independent but also to reduce carbon emissions and conserve natural resources.”

A reliable partnership
“Here at voestalpine, we have put together our greentec steel plan, which clearly sets out the different steps we intend to take as we transition towards green steel production. The first step will see an electric arc furnace being commissioned at both our Linz und Donawitz sites in 2027. This change in technology will mean that we will need greater volumes of scrap and so having sufficient supplies of scrap will be key here. Thanks to our collaboration with the TSR Group, we now have an experienced partner at our side who understands our requirements regarding quality, logistics and supply security and who will provide us with the best possible support through the green transition,” explained Hubert Zajicek, Board Member of voestalpine AG and Head of the Steel Division.
Conserving natural resources & cutting carbon emissions
By signing this agreement, both companies have further underlined their commitment towards a resource-friendly circular economy. The TSR Group sees itself as a strategic partner and raw materials supplier that is able to play a key role in driving the green transition of industrial value chains thanks to its extensive network, long-standing recycling expertise and bespoke logistics concepts.
