The year 2023 was, above all, characterised by high volatility on the international commodity markets. Over the course of the year, there were considerable price fluctuations, especially for ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals as well as paper for recycling, which were reflected in REMONDIS‘ turnover figures. Whilst the company was able to continue its growth course with stable value added and increase the number of jobs by around 2,000 to 43,000, turnover fell by around 0.5 billion euros compared to the previous year.
Specifically, the company realised a total turnover of 12.1 billion euros across the Group with around 43,000 employees in 34 countries. In 2023, the entire RETHMANN Group generated a total of 22.9 billion euros with 96,000 employees – compared to 24.7 billion euros in the previous year.
REMONDIS thus remains in stable economic waters even against the backdrop of ongoing crises and conflicts in the global environment and has been able to further expand its activities. The company’s latest performance shows that its commitment to its business sectors of recycling, municipal and industrial services, water management and public transport (partly via Transdev) forms the basis for economic stability and growth.
Climate protection, resource conservation, clean water and the capital-intensive transition of logistics and mobility to CO2-neutral drive systems will remain the greatest challenges on the road to a sustainable global economy for the foreseeable future. REMONDIS is one of the drivers of this development in Germany, Europe and over 30 countries worldwide. It is therefore expected that its moderate growth will continue in the future.
