REMONDIS has taken an important step towards establishing a modern recycling centre in Denmark – and, in the longer term, towards strengthening circular economies across Scandinavia – by commissioning a new baling station in Ishøj. The new facility is designed to optimise resource management and increase recycling by treating materials as a valuable resource. By reducing the share of materials sent for incineration and transforming cardboard, paper, plastics and other recyclables into new raw materials, the site underlines REMONDIS’ ambition to be a permanent part of Danish and Scandinavian circular flows.
Multi-purpose recycling hub
Although the new baling station was officially inaugurated in October, its significance extends far beyond this single installation. By compressing materials into bales and thereby reducing volume, the facility improves logistics, lowers transport needs and contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions. At the same time, state-of-the-art equipment enhances ergonomics and safety for employees. The attractive location and expanded capacity also open up new customer opportunities, supporting REMONDIS’s growth strategy in the Danish market and securing a larger share of the recycling value chain.
The Ishøj site is already developing into a multi-purpose recycling hub. In addition to baling recyclables, on-site activities include operating a transfer station for hazardous fractions, reloading box-truck tours, sorting textiles, and baling EPS/Styrofoam, with plans to expand into the sorting and pre-treatment of more commercial and industrial, as well as construction and demolition, fractions in the future.

Opening ceremony
This intention was reflected in the opening ceremony, which brought together guests from industry and associations, representatives of the municipality and the mayor of Ishøj, Merete Amdisen, alongside senior REMONDIS representatives, including Egbert Tölle, Board Member REMONDIS Group, Torsten Weber, Managing Director REMONDIS International, Søren Eriksen, CEO REMONDIS Denmark, and Johannes Spongenberg Thorup, Regional Manager REMONDIS Denmark.
Their presence underlined a shared vision to create solutions that combine economic efficiency with environmental responsibility and anchor REMONDIS as a long-term partner in the Scandinavian recycling landscape.
