In the ‘be a mover’ talk series, Jörg Howe, head of Global Communications at Daimler Truck, focuses on people who want to make a difference. The latest episode took him to Lünen, Germany, specifically to the Lippe Plant. At REMONDIS’ company headquarters, he spoke to managing director, Sascha Hähnke, who is responsible for transforming a fleet of around 10,000 vehicles, about the concerns of fleet operators as well as current and future challenges. The practical experience gained so far with the new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 was also a topic of discussion.
Sascha Hähnke is an experienced logistics specialist and an expert in the mobility sector. He has been managing director of REMONDIS Sustainable Services GmbH since February 2023 and is very involved in the company’s alternative drive systems. Moreover, he was also a member of the Transport Working Group and various task forces supporting the Federal Ministry of Transport.
Sascha Hähnke not only has ‘his’ around 10,000 vehicles in mind but the sector as a whole when he says: “We’re in it for the long haul, but on thing’s clear – we can’t finance this indefinitely.” If the subsidy situation does not change, it will not be possible to switch to alternative drive systems. “No one can expect that of us. And we are not responsible for ensuring that Germany has a charging infrastructure.” One positive development is that manufacturers are now producing alternative-powered vehicles in series.
These are just some of the aspects discussed in this interesting episode. Why don’t you listen and watch for yourself?
