REMONDIS Group strengthens its presence in southern Germany

EURAWASSER acquires SüdWasser GmbH

REMONDIS continues its growth in the water management sector: EURAWASSER, a wholly owned subsidiary of the REMONDIS Group, is the new shareholder of SüdWasser GmbH. The company was previously a wholly owned subsidiary of Bayernwerk AG, part of the E.ON Group.

SüdWasser has been operating as a reliable service provider in municipal drinking water and wastewater management in the Free State of Bavaria and neighbouring federal states since 2001. With its many years of expertise, it ideally complements the existing portfolio in the drinking water and wastewater management business area and strengthens the regional presence in southern Germany.

“With the integration of SüdWasser, we are expanding our range of services in a market that is important to us. At the same time, customers and partners will continue to enjoy the same level of continuity they are accustomed to.“

Robert Ristow, Managing Director EURAWASSER

Bayernwerk board member Albert Zettl: “Under the umbrella of a major water and wastewater specialist such as the REMONDIS Group, SüdWasser can now tap into new potential and develop in the best possible way from a business perspective. It was particularly important to us that we were handing over our approximately 60 employees into good hands and that the excellent service provided by SüdWasser to our municipal partners was guaranteed.”

As part of the family-run REMONDIS Group, SüdWasser will benefit from the comprehensive expertise of a renowned provider of water, recycling and other services. REMONDIS’ current range of services covers all aspects of water and wastewater management, engineering and planning services, as well as laboratory and IT services for the water industry. The acquisition of SüdWasser is one of a series of strategic expansions by REMONDIS. For years, the family-owned company has been expanding its municipal infrastructure services, particularly public-private partnerships (PPPs), both nationally and internationally.

This was achieved, among other things, through the successful acquisition of shares in ENERVIE AG and Mark-E AG in 2014, the takeover of EURAWASSER from the French water company Suez and the purchase of RWE-Umwelt at that time. With SüdWasser, the REMONDIS Group is gaining another competent company that has been established in the Bavarian market for more than two decades for long-term development in the water sector. In addition, the Rethmann Group, to which REMONDIS also belongs, and the E.ON Group have a long-standing successful business relationship in other areas as well.

Since the early 1990s, various activities of E.ON and its predecessor companies have been successfully acquired by the family-owned Rethmann company.
