Making urban cleanliness measurable in real time

REMONDIS Digital Services and Risikokapital Freiburg invest in Cortexia

The Swiss company Cortexia has developed software that makes urban cleanliness measurable in real time. This saves resources and protects the environment. Cortexia’s customers include both private and municipal service providers, such as municipal utilities, which are responsible for street cleaning in a city. Several major cities are already using Cortexia’s solution, including the cities of Basel and Geneva.

After initial financing by private investors and market expansion, especially in Switzerland and France, Cortexia has now secured strong partners for its future development, for example in Germany. With Risikokapital Freiburg, it is strengthening its local roots and REMONDIS is contributing its expertise and market access.

Johannes Schön, managing director of REMONDIS Digital Services, emphasises the importance of joining Cortexia: “The Cortexia solution expands our range of services in the area of public services. The market for data and software services to optimise the use of resources is becoming increasingly important. This is exactly where Cortexia offers an innovative and at the same time already proven solution in practice.”

Andréas von Kaenel, CEO and co-founder of Cortexia, says: “From the very first contacts, there was a strong agreement on the strategic direction. The teams share the same values and the cooperation is excellent. REMONDIS has great expertise in Cortexia’s core areas and will ensure the market launch of the solution in Germany.”

The development of the urban cleanliness monitoring solution was carried out in close collaboration with EPFL, HE-Arc, HSG Geneva and the cities of Zurich, Geneva and Basel, and was supported by Innosuisse and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The new funding will be used to finance the continued development of the cleanliness management solution and for new application areas, as well as for its commercial launch in Europe.
