Closing the aluminium life cycle

Schüco and TSR enter into partnership - for the long-term supply of materials for the construction industry

Schüco International KG and TSR Group GmbH & Co. KG have entered into a partnership to make aluminium in the construction sector more sustainable. The partners wish to work together to tackle the growing scarcity of natural resources – and promote a sustainable building industry.

Valuable raw material: Aluminium can be recycled endlessly

The collaboration will see the TSR Group’s nationwide network being used to take back old Schüco windows and production residue and transform them into the high-quality TSR136 recycled products. These will then be used to produce new profiles, closing the material life cycle.

Aluminium is a valuable raw material that can be recycled endlessly. Recycling old aluminium uses up to 95% less energy and produces up to 85% fewer carbon emissions compared to the production of virgin aluminium. Using recycled raw materials to make new products – such as new window profiles – reduces dependency on global supply chains and secures a more reliable supply of raw materials. Thanks to this collaboration, TSR, Europe’s leading metal recycling business, and Schüco, the leading provider of window, door and façade systems, will be playing an active role in securing supplies of resource and climate-friendly materials for the construction industry.

With TSR136, the TSR Group offers the industry a high-quality recycling product that makes a fundamental contribution to stabilising the supply of recycling-based raw materials

Andreas Engelhardt, managing partner of Schüco:

“It is our goal to be involved in the whole of the life cycle of a building envelope. Which means that taking back and recycling the materials installed in buildings is a key component of our strategy. We wish to close the aluminium life cycle and drive forward future-oriented circular construction. Working with the TSR Group means we have an experienced and successful partner at our side.”

Bernd Fleschenberg, managing director of the TSR Group, added:

“This cooperation aims to secure a long-term supply of environmentally and climate-friendly aluminium – without compromising on quality. Our partnership will enable both of us to drive forward the transition towards a genuine circular economy in the building sector and beyond. We are proud that we and our recycled products can make a key contribution here.”
