Representing sustainability: REMONDIS at IFAT 2022

World's leading trade fair sets an example in sustainability

IFAT will open its doors in Munich from 30 May to 3 June 2022. As the largest platform for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, IFAT is the international meeting place for the industry and sets standards for the future. Setting standards in sustainability – the exhibiting companies can do that too. Because how environmentally friendly a company thinks and acts can also be seen in its presence at the trade fair. IFAT is therefore pursuing a new sustainability concept this year, which includes an award for the most sustainable trade fair presentation. Further information on the IFAT Sustainability Award can be found here.

Based on various criteria, including energy consumption, waste/water management, stand construction, transport and travel, catering, communication as well as the overall view of the company and its social responsibility, a top-class jury evaluates the exhibition stands with regard to their sustainability concept. The criteria are based on the guidelines for the sustainable organisation of events of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMU) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA). The award will be presented at the opening event of IFAT on 30 May 2022.

Leading by example

As one of the world’s largest service providers for recycling, service and water, REMONDIS has a decisive role model function when it comes to sustainability and conserving resources. For the company, there is no question that it acts as sustainably as possible in all of its business areas. This is also the case, of course, when REMONDIS presents itself at a trade fair such as IFAT. It is therefore obvious that the company is applying for the IFAT Sustainability Award this year.

Sustainability in action: no print, no advertising material, selected food

While many criteria such as sustainable stand construction, waste collection and the use of reusable crockery and cutlery are already practiced at REMONDIS, further levers have been effectively optimised once again: At the REMONDIS stand, there will be no more cheaply produced promotional items or advertising products with a short lifespan. Likewise, there is no longer any printed material; instead, information material such as the company magazine or presentations can be easily accessed by visitors to the exhibition stand via tablets and QR codes. Finally, great importance was also attached to the protection of the environment and resources in the selection of the food offered at the stand.

GoGreen CO₂ Audit – the path to a climate-neutral trade fair presence

The IFAT Sustainability Award goes hand in hand with Messe München’s GoGreen CO₂ Audit. Every main exhibitor who takes part automatically qualifies for participation in the award. The GoGreen CO₂ Audit is about offsetting CO₂ emissions caused by an exhibitor in connection with IFAT 2022.

REMONDIS is also actively involved in this area, for example in the field of mobility: the flight from Düsseldorf to Munich is offset by a climate protection contribution. The CO₂ caused by the flight is saved by the non-profit climate protection organisation atmosfair in more than 20 climate protection projects, thus reducing the burden on the climate. In any case, employees are asked to travel to the venue in a sustainable manner. The use of GoGreen tickets also contributes to decisively offsetting the CO₂ footprint at the trade fair.

REMONDIS’ contribution to achieving the SDGs

When it comes to global sustainability, there is no getting around the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They summarise the goals with which international climate and environmental protection is to be promoted and the extent to which the developing countries are to be supported by the industrialised countries – on an economic, ecological and social level.

REMONDIS is, therefore, using 17 pillars and six monitors at its stand to show in a concrete and interactive way what measures the company is taking to achieve these goals. Not only in Germany but also around the world, the company is committed to improving living conditions in a sustainable way and taking on ecological, economic and social responsibility.

Interactive at IFAT: REMONDIS uses 17 pillars and six monitors to present the company’s contribution to achieving the 17 global goals for sustainable development

„Our efforts once again underline that our corporate philosophy is built on the cornerstones of sustainability and resource protection and decisively shapes every business area.“
