REMONDIS Australia has expanded its Rocklea Resource Recovery Facility in Brisbane, strengthening its ability to serve customers across South East Queensland. The two-hectare expansion within REMONDIS’s ten-hectare Rocklea site includes a 2,500 square metre building that centralises new medical, biosecurity and cardboard processing operations under one roof, along with a heavy-duty mechanical maintenance workshop. Adjacent drive routes and parking areas have been custom designed to speed up arrivals and departures.
The Rocklea site, REMONDIS Australia’s Queensland headquarters for more than 20 years, processed around 200,000 tonnes of waste in 2025. This will increase with the new operations.

The medical and biosecurity processing operation is REMONDIS’s first in Queensland and is associated with the the company’s national push into the highly specialised waste management space. It has been delivered in response to private and public sector demand, given marketplace gaps that became particularly apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under strict licence conditions, medical waste processing operations involve use of a US-made Bondtech autoclave to sterilise waste such as biosecurity material, syringes and surgical equipment for safe handling and disposal. Such waste will arrive from multiple customers including hospitals, nursing homes and medical and veterinary centres.

An advanced Godswill baler from Taiwan and associated equipment from Queensland-based Material Recovery Solutions are the cardboard processing centrepieces, allowing more than 20 tonnes of baling per hour. They eliminate the need for external involvement in this step of the recycling journey, enabling better efficiency and cost-competitiveness.
The maintenance workshop provides a fully equipped in-house workplace for REMONDIS’s skilled heavy vehicle mechanics. This will contain operational costs and maximise running efficiency for 50 REMONDIS trucks operating from the site. It is expected that at least ten new jobs will be created.
